Past Events in Chelsea, MichiganDecember 2005Bake Sale to Benefit Chelsea Retirement Community - 12/2 Held at Chelsea Retirement Community from 10 a.m. til 3 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony - 12/2 Three new beautiful spruce trees will be lit up with holiday lights on Friday evening at Pierce Park, followed by a stop from Santa as he heads downtown for more festivities. From 6 to 6:30. Used Book Sale at the Library - 12/3 The library is holding a used book sale from 10-3 at their WSEC location. Chelsea's Annual Hometown Holiday - 12/2 through 12/4 This weekend long event features a variety of activities for the family including visits with Santa: merchants will host special activities; cookie decorating; will have the town glowing with the spirit of the season. Christmas On The Farm - 12/3 and 12/4 Waterloo Farm Museum takes a look at what Christmas in rural Michigan looked like during the late 1800's. Holiday Light Parade - 12/3 The parade begins at 6:00 p.m. at Main St. and Old US 12 and continues toward downtown, and concludes at the Clocktower Complex with a Parade Party featuring the Youth Dance Theater's preview of their Nutcracker ballet performance, a community sing-along and gingerbread house display. "Friends of the 4 Friends" Holiday Show & Sale - 12/3 Unique gifts and high quality wares from local artists and artisans including Marsi Darwin, Marlene Dusbiber, Susan Falcone, Tracy Gallup, Candace Pappas, Susan Ogden and many more. Guided Architectural Tours of Chelsea - 12/3 Join a walking tour and see some of the interesting architectural and historical buildings in Chelsea. Tours begin at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 in front of First United Methodist Church. Hometown Holiday Concert - 12/4 The Chelsea Chamber Players will present their annual free concert in the Historic Chelsea Depot at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. The program will feature local professional musicians and a sing-a-long of popular carols. Artist Reception at West of the Moon Gallery - 12/8 Reception from 6 til 8 p.m. featuring fiber arts by Emilie Polens of Chelsea, pottery by Dorie Mickelson of Ann Arbor, and handmade soaps by Becky Winkler of Ann Arbor. Refreshments served. Call West of the Moon Gallery at (734) 475-8725. Field Trip to Cranbrook and DIA with CCA - 12/9 The Chelsea Center for the Arts is hosting a field trip for kids 10 and up. The group and the CCA instructor will be given a tour given by Craig Hoernschemeyer, highlighting Cranbrook’s unique & historic architecture. They will then visit the Cranbrook Art Museum and have lunch in an Eliel Saarinen designed setting. Finally, they will visit the Detroit Institute of Arts to view “Fateful Encounter: Camille Claudel and Rodin," showing at it's only U.S. venue. Madrigal Dinner - 12/9 and 12/10 This annual event features a Renaissance dinner and holiday concert production by the Chelsea High School choir. Seating begins at 6:00 p.m. at Pierce Lake Elementary School. Darwin's Studio 13th Annual Open House -12/10 Darwin's Stained Glass & Antique Slot Machines will feature visiting artists, refreshments and doorprizes, from 10-4. The Nutcracker Ballet - 12/9, 12/10, 12/11 Youth Dance Theater members perform Tchaikovsky's classic holiday ballet, choreographed by Wendi DuBois at Chelsea High School. An Afternoon of Christmas - 12/13 View uniquely themed holiday trees, with ornaments from around the world, and sample some of the sweet tastes of Christmas, at an open house from 2 til 7 p.m. Donations will benefit Chelsea Community Hospital. Visit Chelsea Library's website for more information. The Glass Menagerie at the Purple Rose Theatre - thru 12/17 The American classic by Tennessee Williams is said to be one of his best plays. See it at our very own Purple Rose Theater, directed by PRTC's Michelle DiDomenico. Performances began 10/20 and run through 12/17. "Straight from the Heart" Photography Exhibition - ongoing thru 12/23 One of Michigan's most celebrated photographers, Marco Mancinelli, is presenting his work here in Chelsea at the CCA.
