Past Events in Chelsea, MichiganAugust 2006PRTC Teen Intensive Theatre Camp (ages 11-13) - beginning 7/31 In this acting camp at the Purple Rose Theatre Company, teens ages 11-13 work with peers and theatre professionals on acting, movement and play writing techniques in an intensive and safe setting. YDT Summer Dance Intensive - classes begin 7/31 and 8/7 Youth Dance Theatre of Michigan is offering their 2006 Summer Dance Intensive for dancers aged 8-18. Week 1 (July 31 - August 4) is available to all levels. Weeks 2 and 3 (August 7-18) are only available to dancers who are currently on pointe. Sessions will include ballet technique, conditioning, also modern, jazz, variations, repertory and more. Portrait Workshop at CCA - 8/1 thru 8/4 This course with Craig Linderman will cover the basics of portraiture. Demonstrations and hand-outs will include traditional techniques such as proper proportioning, shading, texture, light and shadow, and color, and will also explore tricks used by the pros, such as light-tables, projectors, copiers, and transfer techniques to speed up production and guarantee optimal results. A visit with author Robert Hejna - 8/10 Local author Robert Hejna has studied Native American culture for more than seventeen years. His new book, A Circle of Stones: Teachings for Teens on Anishnaabe Culture, combines his interest in that culture with his professional life as a social worker and educator. Choose from a small Ashiko, medium or full size Djembe or Dunun. You will be led through the process by skilled drum builders Ryan Edwards and Tom Machowicz. Playing at the Purple Rose Theatre: Honus and Me (thru 9/2) This play, adapted from the Dan Gutman novel, is about a Little League player who finds the most valuable baseball card in the world while cleaning an elderly neighbor’s attic. Filled with baseball history, time travel and romance, this story goes to the 1909 World Series between Ty Cobb’s Detroit Tigers and Honus Wagner’s Pittsburgh Pirates and back again.
