The duo have an ongoing writers’ group in Chelsea, and Storer is an Ann Arbor-based creative coach offering motivation to a number of local writers. Barefoot Boogie - 11/10 Join the folks at the Tree of Life Studio for a free, monthly dance party where you'll enjoy an evening of expression in movement. The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald - 11/11 The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald continues to be one of the great unsolved mysteries of the Great Lakes. Join author Michael Schumacher and his telling of the story of the “Fitz,” its years of service on the waters of the Great Lakes, its tragic demise, the search effort and investigation, and the speculation that followed in the wake of the catastrophe. Darrin was the illustrator of the well-loved American Chillers and Michigan Chillers series and they are now working on their own series, Mick Morris, Myth Solver. The Breges are good at motivating young creative spirits. The workshop will include ideas about how artists and writers turn words and art into fiction. Held at 2 p.m. at Cranesbill Books. Chelsea Library Moving Days - thru 11/13 The Chelsea Library is moving to their new location on Main St the first part of November. That means they'll be closed for services until their opening date at McKune. A visit with Illustrator Steven Kellogg - 11/16 Award winning illustrator Steven Kellogg will visit Chelsea on Thursday, Nov. 16 as part of Chelsea District Library’s celebration of Children’s Book Week. Kellogg, whose books have been part of the Reading Rainbow series, will talk and demonstrate illustrating techniques, becoming an illustrator, and other topics that will leave kids of all ages spellbound. Fashions of the World - 11/17 This event brought to us by The Mission Marketplace and Tree of Life Studio features a night of fashion, fun, and festivities from around the world. Check out Chelsea's local talent as they walk the runway wearing hand made clothing by Jenabah of Sarasvati Silks and fair trade designs from India, Portugal, Africa, Nepal, and more. Organic coffees, teas, smoothies, and juices will be available. Merchants in Chelsea are joining together to present this fun filled day ... for ladies only! The day will feature special events such as an antiques appraisal fair, mini massages, demonstrations and more. Balafon Classes taught by Ryan Edwards of Like Water - 11/26 Enjoy an introduction, or a continuing study into the sweet and funky music of the balafon – a West African marimba. The instructor, Ryan Edwards of Like Water Drumworks, has studied the music of West Africa for nearly 10 years and has traveled extensivly in West Africa. Class for beginners is held from 3 til 4:30 and the intermediate class is from 4:30 til 6. Registration is necessary, and space is limited. A visit with author Laura Kasischke - 11/27 Award winning author and poet Kasischke will read from Boy Heaven, her newest novel for teens. High Strung Rock & Roll Library Tour! - 11/28 Last summer, Detroit band The High Strung toured public libraries across the country and attracted quite a lot of attention, including a spot on National Public Radio's "This American Life." Now it's our turn, and the band will be bringing their rousing, Beatlesque jams to Chelsea as part of the library's grand opening festivities. The Music of Words - 11/29 Poet Laureate, writer and performer M.L. Liebler, and Woodstock Records recording artist Professor "Louie" present an exciting program that blends poetry & Americana Roots music. They take you on a journey from early blues, folk, jazz, rock up to original contemporary compositions. A colorful feature to the performances is writer/vocalist Miss Marie from Brooklyn, NY. CAP Youth Theater presents Fiddler On The Roof, Jr. - 11/29 and 11/30 Set in a little village in Russia at the turn of the century, is this classic tale of Tevye the Dairyman, and his struggle to hold on to tradition in the face of a changing world. Directed and choreographed by Ty Jacobs, musical direction by Colleen Stano and produced by Clara Smith. Witt's End Improv Comedy Workshop - 11/30 Learn the basics of improv theatre and find out how a comedy troupe works together on stage to create scenes that make sense. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and come ready to play! Witt's End was founded in 2001 with the goal of creating scene-based, character-driven improv comedy at the University of Michigan. Cast members have trained at the Second City, the Improv Inferno, the DSI Festival in Chapel Hill, and the Michigan Improv and Laugh Festival in Ann Arbor. City Council Town Hall Meeting – 11/30 This Town Hall meeting will be held on at 7 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center (Board Room). City residents and members of the community are invited to attend to welcome the new City Police Chief, Ed Toth. This meeting will also include the discussion of assessing in the City, and the City's Assessor will be in attendance. |
