Chelsea's Hometown Holiday - 12/1 through 12/3

This annual event kicks off the holiday season in Chelsea. Featuring a variety of activities for the family including visits with Santa, the light parade, tree lighting ceremony, holiday concerts, merchants offering special treats and events, and more. McKune Memorial Open House Community Celebration - 12/1 and 12/2

At long last, the new Chelsea Library is open! Join the library and the community during Chelsea's Hometown Holiday weekend for special events, refreshments and music on both Friday and Saturday. Some of the events include concert choirs, balloon animals and face painting, pianists Megan Emberton and Brian Brill, special storytimes, and of course a ribbon cutting ceremonies which will take place at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. 16th Annual Madrigal Dinner - 12/1 and 12/2

Chelsea High School’s Vocal Music Program invites you to their Madrigal Dinner, where guests are treated like royalty at a formal dinner set during the Renaissance in a Medieval castle. Directed by Steve Heinz, a royal court, minstrels, troubadours, servants, beggars and a jester present a comedic play and concert of beautiful seasonal music. "Friends of the 4 Friends" Holiday Show & Sale - 12/2

"Winter Wonderland" Holiday Dance Show - 12/2

Dancer's Edge studio in Dexter presents this year's annual holiday show, "Winter Wonderland" at the Chelsea High School Auditorium at 6 p.m. Visit the Dancer's Edge website for details and ticket information.

Skate with Santa – 12/2

Come skate with Santa and have your picture taken at The Arctic Coliseum. Enjoy an afternoon of on-ice games including building snowmen, sledding and skating with Santa Claus. Sixth Annual Advent by Candlelight event for Women - 12/2 and 12/3

Join us before the holiday rush to enjoy music, desserts by candlelight and socializing. Saturday evening features guest speaker Elaine Bickel, who will lead a discussion about how we receive "Gifts from God". On Sunday, the discussion will be how to "Fear Not". Christmas On The Farm - 12/2 and 12/3

The Waterloo Area Historical Society will host its annual Christmas on the Farm and at Dewey School from 10 til 4 on Saturday and noon til 4 on Sunday. This re-creation of the holiday's traditions will include tours of the historic buildings, hand-crafted greens, homemade baked goods, and gift items for purchase. Holiday Concert with the Chelsea Chamber Players and Chelsea High School Students- 12/3

Celebrate Hometown Holidays with the Chelsea Chamber Players as they join with Chelsea High School students to present a free concert at the historic Chelsea Depot at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Featuring a string orchestra playing J. S. Bach double violin concerto with Paula Elliott and Ian Cumming violin soloists, Holberg Suite, Mozart's Serenata Notturno and a Christmas carol sing-a-long. Vive La Femme! - 12/3

A mind, body, spirit celebration day for women held at the Tree of Life Studio from 9 til 5:30. Join the community for a day of yoga, singing from Rwanda, "laughing for no reason", West African drum and dance workshops, and lunch. Boy Scout Poinsettias and Wreath Sale - thru 12/7

Boy Scout Troop #425 has fresh wreaths, swags, garland (all made locally) for sale through Dec. 7 and poinsettias to order through a local greenhouse until Dec 4 (delivery Dec 11). A visit with Poet Saleem Peeradina - 12/7

The author of three books of poetry, Peeradina has been described by the Journal of South Asian Literature as a gifted poet who has the “ability to visualize a situation or scene in strong, concrete images.”  His most recent work, "Oceans in My Yard," is a well-written memoir about growing up in Bombay in the 60s. Barefoot Boogie - 12/8

Join the folks at the Tree of Life Studio for a free, monthly dance party where you'll enjoy an evening of expression in movement. The Nutcracker Ballet - 12/8, 12/9 and 12/10

Youth Dance Theater members perform Tchaikovsky's classic holiday ballet, choreographed by Wendi DuBois at Chelsea High School. This year's shows will be on Dec. 8 (7:30 p.m.), Dec. 9 (2:00 and 7:30 p.m.) and Dec. 10 (2:00 p.m.) Tickets go on sale in October. See the Youth Dance Theater's website for more information.

6-11 Club at the Library - 12/11

It’s fun, creative and educational. Check out the library's fun program for kids ages 6-11. Explore a theme each time with crafts, stories, movies, snacks, and all kids of great activities. Film Screening: InZer0 - 12/13

Check out this hip, new science fiction series filmed in Detroit. InZer0, created by local filmmaker Jamie Sonderman, is the story of an ambitious, but simple, courier weaving his way through a dangerous city in a post-apocalyptic world. The future of the human race is at stake as the population has been decimated and can no longer reproduce.  Join us for a viewing of the first six episodes followed by a discussion with the director. Paws to Read - 12/15

Kids are invited to sign up for a 10 minute reading time to read a book or story to Cassie the Library Dog at McKune Memorial Library from 3:30 til 5:00. Studies show that when kids read to a certified therapy dog, they become better readers. Call the library at (734) 475-8732 to register.

Senior Movie and Discussion Series: Munich - 12/15

This movie discussion series with the library's Bill Harmer, continues with Munich. Watch a great movie, enjoy drinks and snacks (bring a lunch if you'd like) and then stay for a lively discussion. Hope Clinic - 12/16

Horse Cave Trio – 12/16

Horse Cave Trio is playing at Chelsea Lanes from 9 – midnight this Saturday. This power trio plays roots, blues, and hillbilly rock with a downright sassy attitude.  The dance floor will be jumpin’ when these guys hit the stage! Contact Chelsea Lanes for more information.

Holiday Skating Exhibition 12/17

See the Arctic Coliseum skaters from every level perform in a holiday exhibition on ice. In addition, there will be local Chelsea singers performing holiday songs. The show begins at 2:30 pm. Balafon Class taught by Ryan Edwards of Like Water - 12/17

Enjoy an introduction, or a continuing study into the sweet and funky music of the balafon – a West African marimba. The instructor, Ryan Edwards of Like Water Drumworks, has studied the music of West Africa for nearly 10 years and has traveled extensively in West Africa. Class for beginners is held from 3 til 4:30 and the intermediate class is from 4:30 til 6. Registration is necessary, and space is limited. Books & Banter Discussion Group - 12/18

Twas the Week before Christmas Storytime - 12/20 and 12/21

Join Miss Jackie at the library for a special holiday storytime for little ones and their parent, grandparent, or other special person. Kids will enjoy a special crafts and treats, too. Held from 6 til 7 p.m. at McKune Memorial Library.

On-Ice Beach Party 12/29

It's the middle of winter! Bring back the fun and sun of the beach at The Arctic Coliseum's beach party on-ice, with a DJ, limbo contests, beach balls, and plenty of fun and games for all to enjoy.
