Happy New Year! - 1/1

Many wishes for happiness, health and fun in 2007 from Things To Do In Chelsea. We are currently in the process of updating the winter events calendars. It's good to be back after the holiday break!

Financial Aid Workshop - 1/3

This workshop focused on procedures and techniques for getting scholarship money for high school juniors and seniors planning to attend college. Taught by Vicki Crupper from the University of Michigan, held at Chelsea High School auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

Slow Cooking in a Fast World - 1/3

Winter Reading Program at the Library - begins 1/8

Chelsea District Library, in cooperation with the Ann Arbor District Library and the University of Michigan Exhibit Museum, presents the sixth annual Winter Family Reading Program, January 8 through February 28. 6-11 Club at the Library - 1/8

Healthy Families: Watch them Grow! Your 6-12 Month Old - 1/9 and 1/23

Join Mary Lou Severin, RN and certified parent educator, for a round table discussion about the growth and development of your 6-12 month old. We will explore sleep (yours and your baby’s), nutrition in your child’s first year, language development, developing motor skills, stranger and separation anxieties, and more. Friends of Library Yearly Meeting - 1/10

Food for Life - begins 1/11

This eight-week cooking course is designed to help participants prevent and survive cancer through proper diet and nutrition. Food demonstrations and tasty, easy to prepare recipes. Balafon Class taught by Ryan Edwards of Like Water - 1/14

Enjoy an introduction, or a continuing study into the sweet and funky music of the balafon – a West African marimba. The instructor, Ryan Edwards of Like Water Drumworks, has studied the music of West Africa for nearly 10 years and has traveled extensively in West Africa. Class for beginners is held from 3 til 4:30 and the intermediate class is from 4:30 til 6. Registration is necessary, and space is limited. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration - 1/15

One World One Family presents the 6th annual MLK Day celebration in Chelsea, which features an afternoon of activities for all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m., the annual ceremonial march downtown at 5:00 p.m., with pizza and refreshments afterwards. The evening community program begins at 7:00 p.m. All activities take place at the Washington Street Education Center.

New Year’s Resolution: Weight Management Issues for Families - 1/16

West African Dance and Music Workshops with Magbana - 1/28

Join the Tree of Life Studio and Like Water Drumworks for a day of workshops led by Magbana, renowned teachers of West African arts, on tour and stopping by Chelsea MI for just one day. Nima Camara from Ballets Africains, Mangue Sylla from Les Mervailles, veteran djembe teacher M'Bemba Bangoura from Ballet Djoliba, and finally Famoro Diabate, a balafonist extraordinare djeli (African history keeper). Music and Art Introductory Session - 1/31

Spend an evening surrounded by the works of great composers and artists, such as Miles Davis, Jackson Pollack, Mozart, Prokofiev and Shel Silverstein, learning some elements of musical history and musical style in context with the visual arts.
