Chelsea Farmer's Market: Opening Day! - 5/5 The opening day of the Saturday Farmer's Market in Chelsea offers fresh produce and potted plants, plus a Timber Town Fundraiser and Home Made Music. Located downtown on Park St., next to the Purple Rose Theatre, from 8 a.m. til noon. "An Inconvenient Truth" Film Screenings and Discussion - 5/3 and 5/5 "An Inconvenient Truth" chronicles former vice-president Al Gore's journey from idealistic student to a man who has refocused his life to fight irreversible climate change. “Our hope is to create a dialogue in the community that will move us forward in the fight against global warming,” said Western Washtenaw Democrats Chair Roy Schmidt. Events are co-sponsored by the Michigan Friends Center, the Washtenaw County Democratic Party, the Chelsea High School Young Progressives and many interested individuals. A film screening will be held on 5/3 at 7 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center. County Clean Up Day - 5/5 Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority and the City of Chelsea are hosting a County Clean Up Day from 9am-4pm. Acceptable materials include traditional recyclable materials, motor oil, yard waste, appliances, household hazardous materials, furniture, old tires, and electronic equipment. A suggested donation of $5 per car will be accepted. Residents can bring up to 4 tires for free, and pay $5 for each additional tire. Residents can bring 1 of the following items for free: television, washer, dryer, Freon containing appliance or computer, and pay $10 for each additional item. A Visit With Author/Illustrator Steven Kellogg - 5/30 Award-winning author and illustrator Steven Kellogg has illustrated dozens of children's books including The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash and Is Your Mama a Llama? For more than 30 years, Kellog has entertained children with beloved and riotous tales as The Island of the Skog. During his visit, he will draw and talk about how he comes up with ideas. Quiet, Please - 5/30 and 5/31 Directed by Eric Hohnke, the play Quiet, Please is about two brothers who live together and have not spoken to each other for 10 years, with a chalk line drawn down the middle of their house. Now playing at the Purple Rose Theatre: When the Lights Come On This World Premiere play by Brian Letscher, a former Division I football coach, explores the high-stress coaching world and the things these driven men do to the women in their lives. Tommy Leonard focuses on signing a brilliant new recruit to save his career, while his new wife wants a baby now. Surrounded by the insanity of the coaching world, it’s hard to make the right call. Directed by PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville, the cast includes Grant R. Krause, Michelle Mountain and Jim Porterfield.
