Waterloo Farm Museum Tours - 6/1 and 6/2 Costumed guides lead tours of the ten-room farmhouse and grounds. Held from noon til 5 p.m. at the Waterloo Farm Museum. Saturday Farmer's Market - 6/2 This week's Farmer's Market will feature Guy Hollerin's of the Holiday Inn North, Ann Arbor Chef Heidi. Located downtown on Park St., next to the Purple Rose Theatre, from 8 a.m. til noon. 34th Annual Chelsea Painters Art Fair - 6/2 and 6/3 More than 25 award-winning local artists display and sell original fine art and hand-crafted note cards in their 34th annual show. Media include watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, monoprint, mixed media and encaustic. Also featured will be live entertainment and free hands-on art activities for kids offered by the Chelsea Center for the Arts. Held on the grounds of the Chelsea Community Hospital from 10-5. Educator Chris Goulart will bring live critters for this informative, hands-on presentation on how these fascinating creatures survive. Boy Scout Troop 476's 50th Anniversary Celebration - 6/4 This event is to celebrate Troop 476's 50th anniversary, and will feature former members, current members, and is open to the public and those interested in the Boy Scouts. Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing - 6/5 The Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 21st Annual Golf Outing at Reddeman Farms Golf Club beginning at 8 a.m. This is the Chamber's major fundraiser to support the many business and community services they provide in Chelsea. CAP Youth Theatre Summer Camp - register thru 6/8 Presented by Chelsea Area Players Youth Theatre, this camp for kids in grades 2-7 focuses on developing performance and theater production skills. Exploring Africa - 6/9 With the social and economic turmoil that is happening in Guinea, West Africa, we hope to bring awareness and raise funds for Guinea during a special one-day workshop. Dancer/Anthropologist Ojeya Cruz Banks will lead us through a day of "Exploring Africa" where she will facilitate classes that explore Guinea/Malian, Rwandese, and Afro-modern dance and song. Waterloo Recreation Area celebrates “Project GO – Get Outdoors” Free Fishing Weekend with a variety of activities for families at the Portage Lake Unit. Activities include: free child ID kits, meet Smokey the Bear, learn pre-1850 survival skills such as how to throw a tomahawk, lessons in fishing, archery, kayaking, bike safety, and fire safety. Plus concessions, pontoon boat rides, live snake programs and stargazing. Activities run between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. (except star gazing). Chelsea Historical Museum Grand Opening - 6/9 This event to celebrate Chelsea's history will feature local speakers, a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, burying of a time capsule, auction and prize giveaways, plus music and food. Held in the gazebo behind the museum at the Gourmet Chocolate Cafe from 1 til 4 p.m. "Viva Las Vega" Spring Dance Show - 6/9 and 6/10 Dancer's Edge studio in Dexter presents this year's spring performance, "Viva Las Vegas" at the Chelsea High School Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Rockhound Basics - 6/10 Discover what you can learn about ancient Michigan from looking at a rock. Geologist Larry Bean will answer your questions and help you to identify rocks at a local quarry. We will meet at the Discovery Center and explore the Rock Pathway before driving to the quarry to do some collecting. Huron Valley Ambulance's Camp 911 for Kids - registration Huron Valley Ambulance will hold their free 2-day annual Camp 911 on Monday, June 18 and Tuesday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chelsea Community Hospital. The day camp, which is open to 8 to 12 year olds, includes touring an ambulance, learning CPR, visiting a local emergency room and other activities. HVA Paramedics and EMTs serve as camp counselors, teaching campers about safety at home and at play, how to perform lifesaving skills, and about Emergency Services careers. Limited spaces available. Public Hearing for 2007 Base Millage Rates - 6/12 The Chelsea City Council will hold a public hearing for the purpose of setting the base millage rate for the current fiscal year. Said public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington Street, Chelsea, Michigan. Persons with disabilities requiring reasonable accommodations in order that the hearing be accessible to them, are required to notify the City Clerk no later than five (5) business days prior to the date of the hearing. Public Hearing for 2007/2008 Budget - 6/12 A Public Hearing to consider the 2007/2008 Fiscal Year Budget will be held June 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington Street, Chelsea, Michigan. A copy of the proposed budget will be available for public inspection at the City Office, 305 S. Main Street, Suite 100, Chelsea, Michigan. Introduction to Theater Camp at CCA - 6/13 and 6/14 Children ages 5 to 8 will have the opportunity to learn a little about the theater at the Chelsea Center for the Arts. Christine Law will lead a mini camp from 10am to noon where budding actors and actresses will have fun with theater games, skits and an introduction to the workings of a theater. Donna Zagotta Creative Painting Workshop - 6/15, 6/16 and 6/17 In this 3-day workshop, watercolor artist Donna Zagotta will demonstrate and discuss methods that will help turn ordinary subjects into creative and imaginative paintings. Focus will be on composition, finding creative new color and the elements and principals of design. All artistic levels are welcome and may use any media. Oil paints must be water-based. Likewater Drum & Dance Performance - 6/16 Join Like Water as they play traditional rhythms that are hundreds of years old. It's not something you just watch. Audiences become enlivened with the spirit of West Africa, its power and beauty. Fabulous costumes and intricate choreography danced by six women will dazzle your eyes as the rhythms being played will speak to your heart. Come feel the positive vibration. A visit with local artist Rick DeTroyer - 6/16 Local metal artist Rick DeTroyer talks about garden tools and their history and maintenance as a preview of his upcoming class at Chelsea Center for the Arts in July. DeTroyer created the metal sculpture of an open book above Cranesbill's front counter as well as the metal crane that identifies the store. Held at 2 p.m. at Cranesbill Books.
