A visit with author Tom Stanton - 7/12 Michigan author Tom Stanton reads from and signs his new baseball history, Ty and the Babe, which details Tiger legend Ty Cobb and his friendship with Babe Ruth. This new history will appeal to Tigers fans and those who want a more balanced portrait of Cobb, whom Stanton feels has been unfairly maligned in recent years. In Stone Crazy, the stones' power to inspire takes a young artist on a creative journey. In Shell Crazy, a young beach-comber gets swept away by her passion for collecting until she remembers what is really important. Gracing each page is one of Tracy Gallup's handmade figures joined with an uncommonly beautiful stone or shell to tell a compelling story that will capture the hearts of children and adults. A visit with author Nancy Seligmann - 7/19 Seligmann (Nancy Schumann), local author and Siena Heights University professor, will read selections from her new memoir, "My Dear Helen." This twin saga is told by two cousins, Joe and Helen, who keep each other informed of the changes in their daily lives. It also tells the story of Europe's descent into the darkness of World War II, as well as America's rise to global, political, military, and economic dominance. Held at Cranesbill Books and McKune Memorial Library, join other Harry Potter fans on Friday Night 9pm to 12:30am to get "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" at midnight! A visit with author Michael Schumacher - 7/26 Michigan author Michael Schumacher's novel, Seasons of the Emma Lee, has been popular enough to reach a second printing. The novel captures a northern Michigan of many years ago, and describes a small commercial boat business that is part of the author's family history, and takes readers back to an earlier time in our state's history. Listen to the Raindrops Book Signing & Songs with Kirk Lignell - 7/26 The beauty of this book and its fanciful illustrations is that it encourages the reader or listener to explore their own imagination, to dance with the prancing ponies, howl with the winds and embrace the wonders of a thunderstorm. It is true folk art born in the teller’s imagination and scripted from a natural, somewhat scary event, into a poetic fable for young readers. Summerfest ARTicipation Art Show - 7/27 and 7/28 This year Chelsea Summerfest’s ARTicipation Art Show is located in the Chelsea Clocktower Courtyards. ARTicipation will host over 30 booths with artists from southern Michigan featuring painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts, and glass. In addition, Chelsea Center for the Arts is hosting a public art project called “Barn Art” where visitors are invited to help create a photographic collage of images of farms, rural scenes, farming families celebrating rural heritage.
