Planning a visit to Chelsea and need information on places to stay and sight-seeing attractions

Q: Heard about your area from good friend ... we're from Ohio and looking for a weekend get-away. Heard about Jiffy Mix factory. Wondering about if anywhere in your area there are cabins/cottages preferably cozy, charming and with hot tubs on the deck ... like a romantic get-away adventure with nearby sight-seeing attractions, hikes, etc. Can you direct me?

A: Yes! There are plenty of things to do during a weekend visit to Chelsea. To start with, you may decide to plan your weekend around one of numerous events and activities going on in town.

As far as romantic places to stay, Chelsea has some wonderful bed & breakfasts. Here are some links to get you started:

We also have two hotels, the Holiday Inn Express and Chelsea Comfort Inn.

While you're here, be sure to check out some of Chelsea's most popular attractions:

  • Downtown shopping - Visitors to Chelsea love our historic downtown. It's very walkable, quaint and has many interesting and unique shops from bookstores, coffee shops, antiques, art galleries and much more.
  • Jiffy Mixes - If you're interested in doing a tour of the famous Chelsea Milling Co. (aka "JIFFY"), call (734) 475-1361 and ask for Tour Scheduling to make your reservation.
  • Common Grill restaurant - Award winning restaurant in the heart of downtown Chelsea. The founder and chef of the Common Grill, Craig Common also has two popular cookbooks and has been award "Citizen of the Year" in Chelsea.
  • Waterloo Recreation Area - The largest park in Michigan's lower peninsula with over 20,000 acres, campgrounds and cabins, nature trails for biking or hiking or horse-back riding, lakes for fishing, swimming and boating, and of course plenty of areas for picnics. It will be especially beautiful for a fall getaway!
  • Purple Rose Theatre - Founded by actor Jeff Daniels (who is also a resident of Chelsea), this widely acclaimed professional theatre brings in folks from around the country.

You may also wish to call the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce at (734) 475-1145 for other ideas. They can send out an information packet to you, customized to your interests during your upcoming visit.

And if that is not enough, you may also be interested in taking a short drive to visit Ann Arbor (20 min. away) or downtown Detroit (1 hr. away).

Enjoy your stay in Chelsea!

Dear Leslie,

Thank you so much for your very informative site about Chelsea and its surrounding areas. My husband and I indeed are visiting Chelsea in October as previously mentioned, and your site has helped make some of our planning so much easier. We intend (already reserved time) to tour the Jiffy factory, as well as shop in some of the more quaint areas between Chelsea and Ann Arbor. Hoping the weather is amenable for hiking as well. Will stay in Comfort Inn, where ... we got an excellent room with price acceptable to allow three night stay. Thanks and may the Lord bless your work and all you do.
