A Heartbreaking Loss for ChelseaOn Thursday, April 13, we learned of a terrible loss to our city. Chelsea's Police Chief Riley Scott Sumner and Fire Captain Matt Tuttle were killed when their helicopter crashed in Scio Township. They were loved and respected in our close-knit community, and will be dearly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones. The town was quiet and somber in the following weeks, and thousands of people attended the funerals and processions. Although the services are now over, we continue to grieve for our heroes. Test Your Soil for Spring PlantingWashtenaw County’s MSU-Extension is making it easy for residents to have soil tested to determine their fertilizer needs for growing vegetables, flowers, landscape plants, turf and fruit. On April 1, 8, or 15, soil samples can be dropped off at Farmers Supply in Chelsea (and other locations in the county). For $15 per sample, find out your garden soil’s levels of pH, essential nutrients and organic matter. The purpose of the program is to help you select fertilizers that best suit the needs of your plants and to prevent over-application of fertilizers that wastes money, damages plants and pollutes water. For more information, call the extension service at (734) 997-1678 or go to www.ewashtenaw.org and click on the soil testing link. Source: eWashtenaw.org Traveling?
