Water Hydrant Flushing to Take Place

The City Water Department will be flushing the fire hydrants for up to eight weeks between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Water customers are asked to check water condition/color prior to doing laundry to avoid any problems. If your water appears discolored, allow the water to run for several minutes until it becomes clear. (This notice came in the City of Chelsea October newsletter, so I assume the process will go through the end of November.)

Historic Building in Chelsea Collapses

On October 6, a major portion of one of Chelsea's historic buildings in the clocktower complex collapsed. The unfortunate event even made the TV news. Luckily nobody was injured, but it certainly was sad to see the old building take a terrible turn for the worse when it was in the middle of being renovated. This building, called the Old Gymnasium building, was located on the north side of town, near the Gourmet Chocolate Cafe. The extent of the damage led to the building being demolished on Oct. 8. The full story with photos can be found on the City Manager's blog as well as the Chelsea District Library website.

Raking Leaves: Info for Chelsea Residents

Chelsea City Public Works crews pick up leaves in the fall. Residents are asked to rake leaves onto the lawn extension (not into the street). City crews will pick up leaves as their schedules permit throughout the autumn months.

Brush pick-up continues to be conducted during the second week of each month. Brush should be neatly stacked on the lawn extension (cut limbs no longer than 4 feet). Please stack your brush separately from your leaves on the lawn extension. Contact the City offices at 475-1771 for more information.

Election Results

On November 8, the residents of Chelsea voted for mayor and 3 city council seats. Given that Mayor Ann Feeney was running unopposed, it comes as no suprise that she has been re-elected. The City Council seats were filled by incumbants Frank Hammer and Cheri Albertson, and the newest member is Kent Martinez-Kratz. For a short bio on Mayor Feeney, check out this page on the Marygrove College website.
